Pre-Winter Preparations: A Fall HVAC To-Do List

Youโ€™ll be spending even more time at home as winter approaches, which is why itโ€™d be a good idea to have your HVAC system inspected by a technician from one of your localย HVAC companiesย this fall. As a good rule of thumb, you should schedule at least two HVAC inspections every year, ideally before the start of summer and winter. After all, an HVAC breakdown is the last thing anyone wants in the middle of these seasons.

To help you prepare your home for winter, Stone Heating and Air has compiled a fall HVAC to-do list below:

Replace air filters. In general, you should clean or replace your HVAC systemโ€™s air filters every three months to maintain indoor air quality. However, you need to replace them more frequently if you have allergies or keep your pets in your home.

Make sure nothing Is blocking your air vents.ย Dusty air filters are the usual culprits behind poor indoor air quality and circulation. However, itโ€™s also possible that blocked air vents are to blame for poor indoor air circulation. Furniture could be blocking some of the air vents, keeping your HVAC system from distributing cool and warm air evenly throughout your interior. Left unattended, blocked air vents can damage your HVAC system, forcing it to work overtime to maintain comfortable indoor temperatures and potentially causing some HVAC components to overheat.

Clean the drain pan and unclog drain lines.ย Clogged drain lines can prevent condensation from exiting the HVAC system, potentially causing it to back up and damage your HVAC system. You should also make sure the drain pan isnโ€™t overflowing.

Schedule an HVAC inspection.ย Bi-annual HVAC inspections can help reduce sudden HVAC breakdowns. Keep in mind that itโ€™s easy to miss the warning signs of damage. Thatโ€™s why experienced technicians from reputableย home heating companiesย should handle inspections.
